This Blog will be a place to see my thoughts and comments on events affecting all of us, from local to the world

We babysat my two granddaughters on Mon, Jan 15, MLK day.  At dinner the night before, I asked them if they knew why school was out tomorrow(They attend a Wake County Public School)  They had no idea.  I asked them all about the man, MLK.  Clueless.  I asked them if their teachers talked about the holiday on Friday.  No.  I gave them a brief history, suitable for a 5 and 7 year old.  When they left on Mon I asked the older one "What was today?"  She said "It's Dr Martin Luther King's birthday"  Mission Accomplished.

Earlier that morning I watched the MLK Day Prayer Breakfast on WRAL. Hardly a white face in the crowd.  Later that night, at a Republican candidate meet and greet, NOT a Black face in the crowd.

Adding these three events together equals what?  I'm not sure.  But, sending my girls off to that long weekend without telling the saga of MLK seems like dereliction of duty by WCPSS.  The lack of diversity in the other two events seems like complacency in BOTH communities.

I volunteer fot Meals on Wheels several times a month.  While I find the methodology to be amazingly carbon emission unfriendly; the good it does really balances that out, and probably outweighs that.  But, that is not the point of this chat.  I am a fill-in delivery driver, filling in on various shifts needing a driver that day.  My routes are generally in N-NE Ralrigh.  The neighborhoods range from neat middle-class and well kept to the most desparate of trailer parks, in-need of repair apartment complexes to well maintained.  Every door that opens after my knock reveals a life nearing its end.  Some people are happy, some less so.  There are SO many care givers-paid, family members. spouses.  And there are SO many alone.  Everyone is in various states of healt, of attitude, and of means.  Some homes are neat as a pin, some look like a "Hoarders" episode. There is no correlation between  vigor, happiness, means, surroundings, or socila situation.  It is uplifting and depressing at the same time.

This week one door opening sticks with me.  She answered the door, I handed her the food.  She was in her 80's  He was back in the apartment, immoblie, blanketed.  I waved and said  "Hello back there!"  He returned a feeble wave.   These two humans, near the end of life.  No obvious complaints with life, still together.  I now see the love in marriages, and the vow "Till death do us part" It makes me wonder which one of us, Polly or I, will take care of the other.

Ever week I receive requests fro this or that organization wanting my candidate views on taxes, education, national politics, and the like.  My opponent's snswers on one of these sites can be seen  here:

Make no mistake, he is 100% for only gov't schools.  He references the Leandro case several time, calling for it'd court mandeted funding levels to be implemented.  The Leandro case?  How has the namesake child of the original cas done in life, with his underfunded early education.  Well, he is the lead attorney for the current appeal of this case!  Here iis his info:

On its surface, I think Leandro is moot and should be thrown out!

As I am running for a seat in the NC House, I decided to catch the sessions in the "short session" currently going on in Raleigh.  I tuned in on Youtube today 1t 10AM.  The house convened with a prayer and the pledge.  As far as I could tell, only 3 members were present!  How much does this cost for that!?  A few items were read by the chari and clerks.  The house adjouiened at 10:04AM,  Done.  Does every member get the per diem or only those in attendance?
